2011, November 19: The Final of
the International Composition Contest "Formosa Landscape"

On November 19, 2011 at the Chai Found 101 Studio in Taipei, the final of Formosa Landscape-Chai Found Music Workshop 2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest, Category I was held. The selected 5 compositions from international as well as Taiwanese applications were premiered before a live audience and before an authoritative jury by the musicians of the Chai Found Music Workshop (CFMW).

The jury consists of:

  1. Professor Hwang-Long Pan
  2. Professor Tsung Hsien Yang, the College of Music, Taipei National University of the Arts
  3. Associate Professor, Institute of Music, National Chiao Tung University, Tzyy-Sheng Lee
  4. Assistant Professor, TNUA School of Music Department of Traditional Music, Ling-Huei Tsai

CFMW is very pleased with the jury's decision confirming the winners of Formosa Landscape-Chai Found Music Workshop 2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest.

for the Category II, 2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest

The jury has decided the result of the first selection, Category II, 2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest in the morning of Nov 10, 2011: there was no work selected in the first round.
The jury consists of:

  1. Mr. Mel Yang (楊忠衡), The executive director of Quanta Arts Foundation
  2. Mr. Chao-Ming Tung (董昭民), The composer in residence of Chai Found Music Workshop and guest professor at the Ciao Tung University, Taiwan
  3. M. Wei-Xiong Dai (戴維雄), pop music artist
  4. Mr. Chen-ming Huang (黃正銘), President & Artist Director of Chai Found Music Workshop

As there was no entry, the final concert on 10th Dec is cancelled.
Sponsored by the Quanta Arts Foundation, the prize may be accumulated into the next year’s event.

The Chai Found Music Workshop is pleased to announce the result of the first round for the Category I, 2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest. The audition was held on Sunday 31st July, and the following seven compositions have been selected out for the final concert.

Please note that the winners of Round one must submit the completed compositions that must have the duration of not less than 6 and not more than 8 minutes by September 16, 2011, 24:00, Taiwan time.

The final concerts for Category I will take place on November 19, 2011 in B1, Jilin Rd., Taipei, Taiwan. We welcome the participants to come to the rehearsals and the concert in Taiwan. If you need documents for applying travel grant in your country, please contact Mabel Wang at cfmw@cfmw.com.tw .

The pictures and the video of the First round selection will be updated online soon. The comments from the jury for each pieces will be sent to participants individually by email.

Chai Found Music Workshop
2011 Sizhu Music Composition Contest 


With the successful experiences of hosting the 2009’s contest ‘Wu Xing’ and 2010's contest 'Yin & Yang', the Chai Found Music Workshop (CFMW) continues the exciting event this year. The purpose is to motivate contemporary composers to write for Chinese instruments and to enhance communication between the composers and the performing ensemble. Especially this year, a new competition category was added, calling for entries with unlimited, vigorous creativity to submit their works. The Quanta Arts Foundation, the sponsor of this category offers great opportunities that include recording and touring for the winners.
