Besides playing Traditional Chinese Music, Chai
Found Music Workshop has performed numerous
concerts with Contemporary Music. Since the early 1990s the group has been regularly touring
Europe, Asia and America and has played concerts and conducted instrumental workshops in Austria,
Germany, England, Spain, France, Holland, Poland,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Costa Rica,
and in the United States.
Along with keeping up the various traditions
of Chinese Chamber Music, Chai Found Music Workshop
has established close ties with international
composers and music ensembles, both from the East
and the West. Plenty of compositions were written
for and premiered by the musicians of Chai Found
Music Workshop.
The workshops about Chinese instruments
are for many young composers the first exposure
to the world of Chinese Music.
In 1999, the composer Christian Utz and the Vienna
based organization AsianCultureLink started collaborations
between European composers and Chai
Found Music Workshop. Western composers were motivated
to write for Chinese instruments. Consequently,
a series of concerts at renowned festivals and
concert venues could be realized, including Crossings, a much acclaimed collaboration with Klangforum Vienna.
